Council adopts comp-plan amendment to recognize RU225 in Waterfront overlay (first reading)

Council approved ordinance 14-20-26 to amend the future land-use figure and recognize RU225 as an allowable zoning district within medium-density residential (MDR) in the south-of-the-village Cocoa Waterfront Overlay, capped at 15 dwelling units per acre to avoid increased intensity.

Staff described a large-scale comprehensive-plan amendment, ordinance 14-20-26, to fix an inconsistency preventing the city from considering RU225 development within portions of the South of the Village subdistrict of the Cocoa Waterfront Overlay. Planning staff Lucy told council the amendment adds RU225 to the MDR table for the waterfront overlay but keeps a 15-dwelling-unit-per-acre cap so there is no increase in density.
