Probation Services asked the county to apply for a $200,586 state grant to fund supervision, treatment and case management intended to reduce incarceration and keep the county jail's average daily population below 300; commissioners authorized submission without a local match.

John Schott, who represents Probation Services and the county's Criminal Justice Advisory Board, asked the commissioners to authorize a state Intermediate Punishment (IP) grant application with a tentative budget of $200,586. He said the program provides an "effective alternative to incarceration while keeping the population at the correctional facility at a manageable level, preferably the average daily population below 300."
