Jon Slason of RSG presented the V2.1 population and household forecast to inform the regional transportation model and the ECOS Plan. Slason said the V2.1 forecast assumes a return of international and domestic migration that reduces natural population decline and projects about 653,000 people statewide by 2050; Chittenden County’s mid-range, business-as-usual forecast shows an increase of roughly 12,000 residents by 2050. The presentation also included a policy-response scenario that assumes achieving the 2050 mid-range housing target, which in the model produced more than 50,000 additional residents in Chittenden County by 2050.
