The full story
Commissioner Gary L. Richardson raised concerns about Oregon Department of Environmental Quality rulemaking that would designate portions of the Illinois River and Rough & Ready Creek as Outstanding Resource Waters. Richardson told the Board he was concerned the designation "could affect groundwater-connected activities, future municipal wastewater permitting, industrial lands in the Illinois Valley, and potential biomass or wildfire-reduction economic-development projects." He presented a draft County comment letter requesting Josephine County representation during the rulemaking and volunteered to serve as the County representative; the Board supported the letter and County participation without objection.
