Council backs $75,000 interlocal step to open restored Swift Center Hub

Port and Hub campaign leaders outlined an $8 million restoration of the historic Swift Center Hub; the council approved a motion to pursue a 10-year interlocal allowing four annual city rentals in exchange for a proposed $75,000 city contribution, with funding source to be identified later.

Port Executive Director Sarah Young and Hub campaign manager Renata Maybrook presented the Swift Center Hub restoration project to the council, describing seismic upgrades, full HVAC, restored historic windows and accessibility improvements as part of a plan to reopen the auditorium and conference spaces by 2028. Young said the current cost estimate is about $8,000,000 and that the Port has committed $1,000,000 while the remainder will come from a mix of community fundraising, county, state and federal appropriations.
