Forest Lake outlines pilot plan for Minnesota 2022 math standards; selects Amplify Desmos for elementary pilot

Math coaches and curriculum staff presented the district's plan to implement the Minnesota 2022 math standards and described local pilots and curriculum choices. Presenters said the 2022 standards shift emphasis toward data analysis at the high-school level (about one-third of standards) and introduce data concepts earlier in grade span, with some kindergarten experiences shifted to include fractions and data exposure.

The presenters told the board the district piloted instructional materials and selected Amplify Desmos as the elementary pilot, with 49 educators participating this year. They said teachers chose Amplify because of strong parent-facing materials and a robust Spanish-immersion component. The team also noted Open Up (used in secondary grades) and Imagine Learning were considered; presenters emphasized coaching and professional development to create a gradual "on-ramp" so teachers and students transition smoothly to the new standards. "We are going to see kindergarteners experiencing fractions," a presenter said during the meeting.
