Board directs study of Riverside–Broadway triangle after safety and dumpster concerns

Board members raised recurring safety concerns in the Riverside–Broadway triangle and asked staff and consultants to study alternatives. "Many people have almost been hit by cars, myself included as people turn that corner," a committee member said, describing frequent near-miss incidents and the need for safer pedestrian crossings near a new restaurant.

Consultants presented several initial options — raised crosswalks, curb-line adjustments, mini-roundabout or traffic-calming chicanes — and recommended meeting with businesses and residents to develop concepts and a phased plan. They also discussed relocating or reconfiguring a row of dumpsters that the board said is used largely by nearby restaurants; one member noted the brickwork is city-owned and "the city needs to pay for that," arguing the municipality should consider maintenance responsibilities and potential relocation costs.

The DDA asked ROE and staff to prepare a proposal and return with concepts and costs, with the consultant describing the assignment as a study to produce preliminary concepts rather than immediate construction work.
