Engineer says borrow pit expansion has permits, gopher tortoise relocations

Allday Howe Engineering told commissioners the Anderson Columbia borrow-pit expansion was permitted through FWC and the water-management district, a biologist had relocated gopher tortoises and a 25-foot buffer along Pilcher Hill Road will be preserved.

The board heard from Joseph Allday of Allday Howe Engineering on a requested expansion of an existing borrow pit off Pilcher Hill Road. Allday told commissioners the project had undergone environmental review: "They've already relocated the gopher tortoise, and they put a silk fence out to as a barrier. It's already been permitted through FWC," and staff said they had received an ERP permit from the Water Management District and would remain above the groundwater table to avoid monitoring requirements.
