Several commissioners pushed back on detailed category proliferation and suggested that many distinctions between 'mixed use center' and 'gateway commercial' might be better resolved in the zoning/code stage rather than on the future land-use map. One commissioner noted that Ann Arbor's approach used fewer categories and leaned more on form-based standards.
