A bill in the Safer Streets Act would amend the Seattle Municipal Code to clarify and codify the city traffic engineer’s authority over safety programs, oversight of Vision 0, and ability to expedite safety improvements on high-injury streets.

Ann Gorman told the committee the second bill would "amend the Seattle municipal code to clarify the authority of the city traffic engineer with respect to traffic safety," adding responsibilities to review project designs, recommend safety treatments and expedite improvements on streets with histories of serious injuries and fatalities.
