Staff outlines plan to patch meter pits, says full meter data imminent

Staff reported multiple recent meter-pit excavations and described a pragmatic short-term repair approach for roads damaged by those installs. "We just get a load of asphalt in the dump truck and bring it in and throw it on the ground and roll over that," Staff member said, explaining the temporary repairs where meter pits were placed.

Staff also said progress on metering is close to producing reliable monthly data. "We're trying to catch up right now on I think we have 7 more meter bits to install," Staff member said, adding that 253 residential meters have been installed. The presenter said crews are two positions short, which has slowed installations, and the town expects to begin providing monthly flow meter data in the coming month once remaining installs and data validation finish.

The presentation included systems and cybersecurity work on the SCADA installation. Staff member said a contractor made configuration changes and the town plans a VPN and Starlink standby to preserve connectivity during outages. The measures are intended to reduce operational disruptions and allow remote troubleshooting of flow meters and other telemetry.

Council members pressed staff on timelines and staffing needs; staff said meter rollout and SCADA data validation remain high priorities but depend on available crew capacity.
