CMS Innovation Center outlines Ambulatory Specialty Model goals and timeline
The CMS Innovation Center presented an overview of the Ambulatory Specialty Model (ASM), saying the mandatory model will begin on 01/01/2027, run for five performance years through 2031, and focus on specialist-driven care for heart failure and low back pain.

Presenter gave a high-level description of the Ambulatory Specialty Model and why CMS is testing it: to reduce fragmentation in Original Medicare and bring specialists into value-based payment arrangements. "ASM will test whether performance based payment adjustment for specialists paid under original Medicare can improve care for patients with common chronic conditions," the Presenter said.
