Speakers emphasized that resilience measures tied to the wildland‑urban interface (WUI) are a central concern when rebuilding after fire events. Greg Rogers, regional director for the National Fire Protection Association, said jurisdictions that waived WUI requirements after fires in some cases later wished they had preserved those measures: "They didn't want to roll back the requirements from the wildland interface code, because they felt like they didn't want to build back the same problem that had occurred there."
