The Dutchess County Legislature adopted a proclamation recognizing Diwali, also known as Deepavali, and described the festival's significance to Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Indo‑Caribbean communities. Legislator Lisa Cole introduced the proclamation and noted it was, as she put it, "the 1st time we are issuing a proclamation to recognize Diwali in Dutchess County."
