Cold Spring officials cite overtourism and contractor lapse after holiday weekend
After a Labor Day service lapse by contractor Casella left refuse on Main Street, Cold Spring trustees said the village also struggled with visitor volumes that strained public safety and called out radio-interoperability failures with state parks; the village has filed an Article 78 suit against NY State Parks and is seeking fixes with county and state officials.

Cold Spring trustees opened their Sept. 9 meeting by reading a statement from Casella acknowledging a Labor Day refuse-collection lapse and promising corrective steps. "The mess that resulted as a result of our error was unsightly and unsanitary," the statement read; the contractor said the missed pickup was caused by a June 1 data conversion and that holiday schedules are now corrected.
