Mayor John Hala told the podcast that several developers are pursuing rezoning and master-plan approvals intended to increase the quantity and variety of housing in Ames. He said the council heard first readings of related ordinances and emphasized that approvals in council proceedings do not immediately translate to construction: developers determine construction schedules and groundbreakings may occur this fall or the following spring depending on each project.
