Commissioners approve change order for Willis project after subsoil issues discovered

The board approved Change Order No. 5 to Robertson Construction's contract for the Willis renovation after contractor testing found unstable subsoil; work will include pulverizing and recompacting subsoil and adding 6 inches of stone and 6 inches of asphalt to the parking area.

John Melvin, director of facilities, told the board that testing on the Willis project revealed the southern half of the parking lot had inadequate subsoil compaction. "So this will pulverize the soil, compact it down, and then replace it with 6 inches of stone, 6 inches of the asphalt," Melvin explained when recommending Change Order No. 5 to the county's contract with Robertson Construction Services LLC.
