UW–Madison Extension urges Vernon County to plan now for large-scale wind and solar projects

An Extension report delivered to the Vernon County Board outlines community feedback and tools counties can use — comprehensive-plan language, permitting or zoning ordinances and developer contract terms — to manage potential large-scale wind and solar projects before proposals arrive.

Jesse Bradish, a community engagement specialist with UW–Madison Extension, told the Vernon County Board the RESET (Renewable Energy Siting and Engagement for Tomorrow) project collected more than 200 comments across seven engagements and produced a 70‑page guide for local officials. "This work was funded by a Department of Energy grama to engage and educate communities about their options," Bradish said during the presentation.
