Work session previews Forest Street Bridge replacement funded through state bridge program

Council and staff reviewed the Forest Street Bridge replacement, describing a proposed precast-concrete, two-lane structure (options: 20, 24 or 28 feet), funding from a $600 million state program, an estimated cost of $324 million and a tentative 2028 construction start.

Mayor Ryan Smathers opened a Sept. 1 work session focused on replacing the aging Forest Street Bridge, telling attendees the structure was built in 1959 and is now 67 years old. Scott Wood, a representative of LTAC, said the bridge replacement is eligible under the Leading Idaho Local Bridge Program and that the program's grant funding is fully funded.
