Staff recommends dropping foundation repairs from program, citing HUD limits and budget pressures

Staff recommended that the committee discontinue foundation repairs in the emergency repair program, saying foundation work often exceeds program budgets, triggers related repairs, and raises HUD-eligibility and liability concerns; staff will return the item for formal consideration if the committee requests.

Navarro recommended removing foundation repairs from the program's covered activities, arguing that foundation work typically exceeds the program's budget and creates additional repair needs that the program cannot address. "My recommendation is that we, unfortunately, no longer do foundation repairs just because what it encapsulates what it encapsulates where it just outside of our our scope and creates the found the the amount of funding that it needs to go towards it, unfortunately, we're not able to carry and the liability we're not able to carry," Navarro said.
