Ellis County broadens moving-permit rules, approves $500 maximum penalty
The county updated its moving-permit policy to cover over-length, over-width and overweight loads in addition to over-height, and set the penalty at the maximum allowed by statute ($500). The resolution (R2026-02) passed 3–0.

Brandon McKay, Public Works director, told commissioners the county’s existing moving permits covered only over-height loads and proposed updating the permit and accompanying resolution (R2026-02) to address over-length, over-width and overweight loads. McKay noted that weight-limited bridges remain a constraint and that the change would provide clearer guidance for transporters and staff.
