Sixth-grade students from Whittier School presented a cross-curricular unit tying an ELA study of historical yellow fever accounts to hands-on science experiments observing bacterial growth, telling the School Committee the work strengthened reading, evidence use and scientific thinking.
Superintendent Bill Hart told the School Committee the district has hired 21 full-time nurses, put a new curriculum-linked field-trip practice in place, launched targeted attendance home visits and will award scholarships from a $200,000 Mary T. The Everett School Committee discussed a drafted statement rebutting public comments that questioned Superintendent William Hart’s licensure and unanimously voted (8-0) to refer the draft back to its sponsor for revision, after debate about naming an individual and free-speech limits.

Caverion School students presented SHIELD values and described a civics action project documenting local food insecurity; the School Committee praised the presentation and members suggested possible city collaboration and data-sharing next steps.
Massachusetts Teachers Association and Everett Teachers Association representatives urged the committee to sign a letter asking the governor and legislature to address a fiscal crisis impacting districts, citing Chapter 70 formula issues, inflation and uneven Student Opportunity Act impacts.
