Kristen Davis, president of the North Polk Foundation, reviewed the foundation's mission, grant awards, the Comet Compassion Fund, revenues and an endowment managed with Greater Des Moines Foundation; she said the foundation awarded roughly $126,000 to date and highlighted fundraising challenges and May 30's Celebrate North Polk event.
The North Polk board unanimously approved a Modified Supplemental Amount (MSA) request of $861,466 for at‑risk dropout prevention funding, approved voluntary early retirement and early resignation incentives, set a Jan. 20 public hearing for multi‑year calendars, and approved expansion of the Raccoon River Conference.
At its organizational meeting the North Polk Community School District board elected Keith Borman president, named Matt Eicher vice president and approved appointments including Sarah Aspengren as board secretary and Kristen Wood as treasurer. The board also set meeting schedules and financial designations.
North Polk FFA students recounted their trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, describing tours of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Ozark Fisheries, career fair contact with colleges and employers, and takeaways they plan to bring back to local FFA programming.
The North Polk Comm School District board unanimously approved the consent agenda, multiple modified supplemental-amount (MSA) requests to the SBRC including $3,354.96 for EL instruction and $260,000.325 for open enrollment out, and approved second/final readings of several policies; the board also approved first reading of an early-retirement incentive for 2025–26.
Four candidates at a North Polk Comm School District forum on Oct. 31 outlined priorities including maintaining academic standards, expanding mental-health and safety resources, protecting teacher voice, and planning for enrollment growth and facilities funding ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
Student council reported recent events and upcoming activities; communications director announced a new North Polk food pantry at the high school (open Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:25–3:50) and praised student involvement in production operations for athletic events.
The district’s annual treasurer report showed revenues exceeded expenditures by $753,000 for fiscal 2025, a solvency ratio of 11.64%, a $502,000 increase in balance over FY24 and changing enrollment that will affect future calculations.
Transportation Director Marcy Hannigan reported the district’s new student bus badging system helped locate students who missed stops or boarded wrong buses; the department also plans to add a 2023 transit vehicle with 54,000 miles and modern safety features.
The district has completed installation of new digital scoreboards and related sound systems at athletic facilities, paid for by donors. Administrators and board members thanked sponsors and the group of staff and students who run the systems.
