Chair Flores called the joint interim committee to order, called the roll and announced a quorum with Assemblymember Wynne marked absent/excused initially. Chair Flores invited public comment submissions and described the meeting format (in-person and phone).
The Joint Interim Standing Committee on Government Affairs heard public comment and held extended discussions on two main policy areas: (1) follow-up on last session’s county-elected pay/role changes (SB116) and whether county commissioners in large counties should be classified as full-time, and (2) presentations and testimony about gun violence prevention and the revived SB156 proposal. Law‑enforcement agencies, county officials, student survivors, school district police and interest groups provided data and competing policy recommendations.
