The Idaho Transportation Department’s Motor Vehicles Division requested replacement IT equipment and described temporary workspace arrangements while the department continues facility planning.
Brooke Dupree, Legislative Services Office budget analyst, told the committee the division has 240 authorized full-time positions and that the department requested $981,700 in FY2026 to replace IT equipment including computers, scanners, switches and printers. The governor recommended the IT equipment request.
Director Scott Stokes explained that DMV staff are working from temporary facilities at the Chinden campus, where space originally configured as a call center does not accommodate all DMV employees. “We have generic workspaces where they'll spend maybe 2 days at home and 2 days in DMV,” Stokes said, adding the department has tracking systems that monitor transaction production and performance.
Representative Tanner and others asked for a clearer inventory of software licenses and ongoing software funding streams; Stokes said the department can provide a detailed list to the committee and noted construction-management software projects have progressed more slowly than expected. Dupree also noted a FY2025 supplemental included replacement items of $1,566,000 for the division.
No vote was taken; lawmakers requested follow-up documentation on the software portfolio, ongoing licensing costs and the plan for permanent DMV facilities.
