Fulton County Transit launches demand-response service in Marshall County

At the Sept. 15 meeting, Kristen Grooms, deputy director of Fulton County Transit, told the Marshall County Fiscal Court that Fulton County Transit has expanded service to Marshall County and is offering demand-response rides Monday–Friday within 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with initial service staged from Mayfield and two drivers currently operating in the area.
"As of last Monday, we are Marshall County also," Kristen Grooms said, describing the service area (Fulton, Carlisle, Graves, Hickman and now Marshall) and explaining demand-response is same-day service. She described standard fares as $5 round trip for rides within the same city and an $18 round-trip rate for trips between city and county boundaries, such as to Calvert City. Grooms asked the public for patience while local drivers are recruited and stated the service is first-come, first-served.
Questions from commissioners focused on staging and where drivers originate; Grooms said vehicles come from Mayfield each morning and said the agency hopes to station drivers in Calvert as demand grows. Executive Director Kevin Kelly accompanied Grooms to the meeting.
The announcement signals a new transportation option for residents without other travel choices and the court thanked Grooms and the transit staff for initiating the service.
