The city licensing board approved one-day liquor licenses for a church chili cook-off, a Kilroy Square vintage market, two Italian-night dinners at the Early American, and a boxing event at the Quincy Youth Arena; applicants described vendor lists and safety measures and board members raised no objections.
At a Quincy City licensing board meeting, members approved one-day liquor licenses for four upcoming community events and handled routine business including minutes and two license relocations. The transcript does not specify the meeting date.
The board approved a one-day permit for the House Neck Congregational Church to serve alcohol at a chili cook-off at 310 Minute Ave on Jan. 31 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Board members raised no objections before Speaker 2 moved to approve the request and the motion passed by voice vote.
Helen Schiner, speaking for the Quincy Chamber of Commerce, presented plans for a Kilroy Square Vintage Market on May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. She said the event expects "approximately 24 vintage vendors" selling upcycled clothing and housewares and that event vendors will include a beer garden supplied by Break Rock Brewery and Patty Barry's and one food truck, Georgie's Greek. "Vintage markets are very popular in the downtown areas," Schiner said, describing the Chamber's aim to bring more commerce to downtown Kilroy Square. The board approved a special use permit and one-day liquor license for the market after a motion from a board member.
Sheila Hooley described two Italian-night dinners at the Early American, 1054 Hancock Street, scheduled for Feb. 11 and Feb. 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. "A couple of times a month, I just wanna be able to serve beer or wine or alcohol…when we do Italian night," Hooley said, adding these events are intended to draw more patrons. A board member asked Hooley to meet with Detective Paul Brown or Lieutenant Coughlin after the meeting to coordinate; the board approved the two one-day licenses by voice vote.
Chris Trieti, representing Granite Chin Promotions, sought a one-day liquor license for a boxing event, Rumble at the Rink, at Quincy Youth Arena, 60 Murphy Memorial Drive, on May 16 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Trieti said event staffing will include "a Brewster ambulance, detailed ALS and BLS, the ALS for the competitors, BLS for the spectators," licensed private security, tip-certified bartenders and full liquor insurance, and that the promoter will conduct a walkthrough with Quincy Police and Fire. The board approved the special use permit and one-day liquor license.
In other business, staff noted two common victualler license relocations: IHOP will move from 115–119 Parking Way to 153 Parking Way, and Delights Bakery will move from 234 Billings Road to 764 Hancock Street. The board also moved to accept the minutes from the Jan. 13 hearing and waived their reading. The next hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, and the meeting adjourned.
Votes at a glance: each of the four one-day liquor license motions was moved by a board member and approved by voice vote; explicit roll-call tallies were not recorded in the transcript.
