The Hardin County Commissioners Court on Feb. 24 approved a series of routine financial and administrative items, adopted several proclamations and authorized a vehicle purchase and contract adjustments.
The court approved the Feb. 10 meeting minutes and voted to release liabilities presented by County Treasurer Deborah McWilliams totaling $1,759,291.75. McWilliams reported total cash funds of $32,894,276.21 and named balances in the county’s checking and money market accounts.
Assistant county auditor Angie Smith presented preapproved expenditures and transfers; total expenditures and transfers presented to the court were $905,108.37 and gross payroll for Feb. 14 was $652,334.04. The court voted to authorize payment of county bills as presented.
The court adopted Resolution 4‑26 proclaiming March 2026 as American Red Cross Month at the request of Kimberly Klein, executive director of the American Red Cross Southeast DPS Texas chapter. Klein told commissioners the chapter covers 17 counties. The court also approved a set of resolutions requested by Hardin County Crime Victims Assistance Center leadership proclaiming April as Child Abuse and Assault Awareness Month, April 1 as "Start By Believing" day and the week of April 19–25 as Crime Victims' Rights Week; one of those items drew a recorded dissent from Commissioner Cooper.
The court granted permission for a virtual "Pave the Way" 5K fundraiser in April to support local Crime Victims Assistance Center outreach and education. Tax Assessor‑Collector Steve Smith and Chief Deputy Lisa Finn filed their 2025 continuing education hours under Section 6.231 of the Tax Code; the court accepted the filings for the record.
Commissioner Amanda Young received approval to purchase a 2026 Ford F‑150 (VIN ending 2112) from Sauer Lake Ford at a listed price of $47,007.49 with a corresponding fiscal‑year budget amendment transferring $47,750 between line items. The court also authorized disposal of unsold furniture that received no bids and approved an amendment to LaBeach Architectural Group’s professional services fee, reducing it from 7.5% to 6% for the hurricane safe room phase C.
Staff presented Change Order No. 2 with NMT Construction for added conduit and related items on the safe room project; the total change order amount presented was $4,003.39 and the court approved it while staff said a later negative change order will offset other items. The court also authorized removal of 32 pole pads from inventory to return to No Inc LLC for buyback credit.
Several items were routine and passed by voice vote; no litigation or large budgetary commitments were initiated at the meeting. The court adjourned after reminders about early voting locations and times for the March 3 election.
