Will McNamara, with Sandia National Laboratories, announced the formation of the National Consortium for the Advancement of Long-Duration Energy Storage Technologies and said he will lead the effort. "I am honored to be leading the newly formed National Consortium for the Advancement of Long Duration Energy Storage Technologies," McNamara said.
The consortium is cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, including the Office of Technology Transitions and the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, and will include six national laboratories working with industry and other partners, McNamara said. "This exciting new project, cosponsored by the Department of Energy, Office of Technology Transitions, along with the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, will feature 6 national laboratories in partnership with over a 150 organizations," he said.
McNamara described the consortium’s purpose as understanding the barriers and challenges long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies must address to reach commercialization. He said the group will enable and facilitate collaborative efforts between a wide variety of both public and private U.S. entities to accelerate development and deployment. "to help understand the barriers and challenges that LDES technologies must address in order to achieve commercialization within the next decade," he said.
He invited U.S. organizations with a stakeholder interest in LDES to join as teaming partners and encouraged interested parties to consult the consortium website for information on partnership opportunities and updates. "We are looking for U.S. organizations to join the national consortium as teaming partners," McNamara said. "For more information on how to become a teaming partner or to remain updated on the progress we are making within the LDES National Consortium, please visit our website."
