An academic presenter (speaker 11) shared midyear assessment results: in primary grades many kindergarten students showed letter‑sound progress (about 50% scoring level 3 or 4), and the district reported gains in grades 3–5 ELA and math as well as middle‑grade science point growth compared with the start of the year. The presenter emphasized ongoing work on individualized reading plans and interventions for students at risk of retention under third‑grade promotion rules in the LEARNS Act.
The board also recognized multiple staff members across campuses: Mary Stout (Huntsville Middle School) was commended for her work as a math and special education teacher; Brittany Henderson (Watson Primary) was honored as an outstanding special education para; and other staff were celebrated for leadership and contributions to school culture.
Huntsville High School’s student‑of‑the‑month, Maya Hatfield (speaker 9), told the board she plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to pursue a secondary education degree with certification in special education and a focus on behavioral and emotional disorders. "The culture and the community of our school has really been extremely impactful to my dream," she said.
Presenters highlighted Renaissance programming (a national model for school culture), staff professional development, and plans to seek platinum recognition for Saint Paul campus. Administrators said culture work and targeted interventions are central to sustaining academic gains.
Board members applauded the progress and asked staff to continue monitoring interventions and third‑grade promotion requirements.
