Rachel Kovach, owner of Mindful Mercantile, cut a ribbon Friday at a ceremonial grand opening welcoming her shop’s second location to Medina.
Organizers and local officials praised the store’s sustainability focus and pledged assistance as the small business expands. The ceremony included presentations of proclamations from county and state offices and remarks from community partners and city representatives.
The moderator opened the event by calling the shop a welcome addition to Medina’s retail mix and noting its sustainability approach. "I really love what you're bringing to Medina, this sort of sustainability option of refilling all the soaps and cleaners and...just better products for the environment," the moderator said.
Rachel Kovach said the new Medina location follows a flagship store in Berea that began in a business incubator. "Our mission is to fully entrench in the community in any way that we possibly can," Kovach said, thanking staff and volunteers who helped with the opening.
A presenter introduced elected and city staff in attendance, including a representative from U.S. Rep. Max Miller’s office, Ward 1 Council Member Chet Simmons, Building Inspector Dan Gladysh and Community Development Director Andrew Dutton. Organizers said county commissioners and state officials also sent proclamations welcoming the business; the proclamation paperwork was noted as signed by Senate President Robert McColley and State Senator Mark Romanchuk of the 22nd Senate District.
Speakers emphasized local support networks for small businesses. "You can count on us. We will show up for you time and time again," the presenter said, urging residents to visit the shop and support the entrepreneurs and artisans on display.
The event concluded with a ceremonial countdown and ribbon cutting, photos and applause. Organizers said they will assist the owner with future growth and finding additional space if the business outgrows the current location.
