The Zoning Hearing Board approved a variance to permit a neighborhood retail boutique (Deli Baca Boutique LLC) at 1001 West Princess St.; the applicant said the store will operate 9 a.m.–9 p.m. and serve nearby residents, including the Haitian community.
The City of York Zoning Hearing Board approved a variance allowing a neighborhood retail boutique at 1001 West Princess St., permitting a use not otherwise allowed in the Employment Center zone.
Solicitor Andy Carroll read the case record, which lists the applicant as Shayla Versailles and the owner as The Acquisition Group LLC. Interpreter Jalen Philistin spoke for the applicant, identifying the prospective operator as Sheila (recorded in the application as Shayla) Versailles and describing the business as Deli Baca Boutique LLC, a neighborhood retail store that will operate roughly 9 a.m.–9 p.m. and sell household items, drinks, snacks and some clothing. "Her goal is to maintain a clean, safe, and respectful business that will benefit the local community," the interpreter said.
Board members questioned the applicant about neighborhood context and competition, noting nearby businesses including a Turkey Hill and a CVS and questioning the traffic claims in the application. A board member also raised concern that the property owner was not present. The applicant said she had spoken with neighbors and that the store aimed to serve a growing Haitian community in the area.
After discussion a board member moved to approve the requested variance and another seconded. The board called the vote and approved the motion. The applicant thanked the board and audience members offered congratulatory remarks.
