Summary
The board unanimously approved two proclamations: one recognizing April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in partnership with DVAC, and another declaring May 2026 Mental Health Awareness Month with events planned countywide, including a May 30 community walk and youth activities.
At its April 21 meeting, the Saline County Board of Commissioners approved two public-health proclamations.
The board read and approved a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in cooperation with DVAC. Jacqueline Lawrence of DVAC presented service statistics and a calendar of outreach events, including sidewalk-chalk activities, online campaigns and tabling with a QR code linking to a 24-hour hotline. Commissioners praised DVAC’s community outreach and approved the proclamation unanimously.
The board also approved a proclamation declaring May 2026 Mental Health Awareness Month. Deanna Ryals, Martin Youth Center coordinator, and Alyssa Jewell, outreach and education specialist, described plans including a K–5 mental-health coloring contest, a community "Steps to End Stigma" walk at Gerry Ivey Park on May 30, and a mental-health first-aid training on May 4. Commissioners voted to proclaim May as mental health month and paused for a group photo.
Both proclamations are ceremonial but intended to highlight local services and encourage public participation in prevention and support activities.
