Administrators told the board they still plan to reach substantial completion on or about June 18, and that temporary occupancy allows controlled access for furniture installation and systems commissioning. On commissioning the contractor explained it is the process of fine-tuning HVAC and other systems so that the facility operates to the district’s needs.
Project finances were discussed: the construction contingency in the GMP is largely spent (about 84% used, per the contractor representative) while the owner contingency remains for unforeseen items. Administration gave an example of a likely contingency draw: additional crane work to place a large exterior sign because of grade changes could cost more than $7,000.
Board members and contractors said a ribbon-cutting and grand-opening schedule is under discussion; options include late June or early July and the board will be involved in planning recognition and community events.
Administrators and contractors asked the board to be patient with punch-list items and post-occupancy commissioning issues, noting electricians and trades will remain on site through the summer to complete systems and adjustments.
