At its Nov. 10 meeting the Burleson ISD board heard that the district earned CTE District of Distinction for a second straight year and repurposed a science lab to expand cosmetology instruction at CHS, producing industry certifications and stronger practicum ties with local employers.
The district reported the Texas Health Medical Associates clinic at the Chamber Building opened in September and construction of a full-size gym at Mound Elementary is underway with an expected early-spring completion; the Mound project includes an ICF storm-shelter component and is tracking under budget.
Samantha Steinbart, a district teacher and parent, told the board she is asking the district to partner with families and provide meaningful training and supports for students with ADHD and autism, citing state prevalence data and concerns about inconsistent special education implementation.

After a presentation from its financial adviser, the board approved an order to pursue refunding roughly $83 million of outstanding bonds and a separate resolution to redeem a Series 2016 maturity early, with projected interest-cost savings cited at about $6 million (present value).
The Burleson Independent School District Board of Trustees on Sept. 8 adopted a tax rate of $1.2552 per the Texas Education Agency's tier-1 directive and received a July financial report showing routine summer expenditures, a large debt payment and near-term capital work including a new clinic and the Mountain Gym project.
State Representative Helen Kerwin used the public comment period on Sept. 8 to summarize outcomes from the 89th Texas Legislature and special sessions, focusing on school-choice provisions, parental-rights bills, and HB2 — the education reform bill she described as concentrating on teacher pay, early literacy and special education funding.
Following a closed session covering personnel and other matters, the Burleson ISD board granted the board president authority to approve new hires between the Sept. 8 meeting and the next regular meeting; the hires will be ratified at the October meeting.
